Windrush Heritage: Rudi Page and I connected for the first time just over a year ago and through that iconic interview, where you hosted myself alongside Niel Osborne of IABWA, I was awakened and schooled on The arrival of the ship HMT Empire Windrush at Tilbury docks in 1948, bringing more than 800 passengers from the Caribbean, as a moment that shaped modern Britain.

Londoner, Rudi Page, has created ‘Windrush Anchor Heritage Education Programme’, a community-centered initiative holding events, festivals, and education workshops to celebrate cultural pride amongst Black British communities.

As a result Rudi Page has been awarded the UK Points of Light award. Points of Light are outstanding individual volunteers – people who are making a change in their community. The Prime Minister recognizes an inspirational volunteer with the Points of Light award.

Windrush Day is observed annually on 22 June in the United Kingdom. The day was introduced in June 2018 on the 70th anniversary of the Windrush migration. Windrush Day is not a bank holiday. It was instituted following a successful campaign led by Patrick Vernon. There is an extensive program with events taking place across the UK acknowledging this historic day. For details click here
